Rumor #1: Whitney and Brody seen getting close at a club!
Rumor #2: Lauren possibly appearing on the next season of The City!
OK, that's it for now. I think I'm supposed to be job hunting so peace out.

From The City to The Hills and back again
Oh my goodness. The City looks like it's going to get pretty good and thankfully no sign of Adam and Allie and Jay, though I will miss Erin. And please God let Olivia fall on her pretty little face. As for The Hills, augh. Look for Stacey the Bartender chilling with Kristin when she's making fun of Brody. I truly don't think I can stomach that show anymore...though I do enjoy the last several seconds of the preview although Heidi and I agreeing on something makes me uneasy.

He looks like that G.L.B. model...
Like my brother and his lady friend, I enjoy googling background information about things I am watching. So I was googling our friend (I mean that sarcastically of course) Jay's band, Tamarama. They were named after a beach, FYI. Pottsy's and Jay's favorite beach in Australia.
From here I find out that Jay's ex-girlfriend is a Victoria's Secret model. And then that lead to the revelation that Jay is a former model. Or is he? Well, a guy named Brent Tuhtan was a model. Yes, that's right. JAY LYON IS BRENT TUHTAN. Well, technically Brent Tuhtan is Jay C. N. G. Lyon. As Alison said, it's like he has a nurse in the middle of his name.
So, in trying to find out where this info came from, I was lead here. I'll just let you know the important part- as excerpted from the site:
Laurence Y Payg is Britain 's only professional name analyst. He makes his living advising parents on names for their offspring, and by choosing new names for people who feel they aren't getting the best out of life. His own name may seem unusual, but that's because he practices what he preaches. He changed it by deed poll to achieve his aims.
He's a professional y'all. There is a girl he renamed Alison N. G. Day and she got a promotion the day she changed her name. And Jay DHGNFM Lyon got on the City! But really, what's with the Cs and Ns and Gs? If he has studied this for 18 years you would think he would utilize the other 23 letters of the alphabet. But I guess, if you got a good thing going.
But honestly, if your livelihood depended on you coming up with new powerful names for people, and you boast about "practicing what you preach," one would think you would come up with a name that was pronounceable. If I saw him in the pointless career yellow pages as a name analyst and I followed the little dotty line to that shiz, I would keep moving. I am perfectly capable of adding pointless letters to my own name, thanks.
Sincerely,
That W.O.W.T. Girl
What could be better?
Watching The City with batgirl- it's pretty awesome to have someone besides my dog to share all of my brilliant commentary. That Olivia is seriously a bitch.
Oh! Having Lo here too- that might be better.

The City is alive with the sound of the Hills
"Hey! I didn't know John Stamos was on this show!" Mick after spotting Adam in the credits.
"Hey! I always wondered if The City ever called The Hills! And now it's right in front of me!" Mick, again, natch.
So AFTER I broke my toe (I'm not a doctor or anything, but I'm pretty sure you're not supposed to yell in pain when you walk on it) I hopped/crawled into the living room to hit the couch for some City action. Tonight, we learned that:
1.Diane Von Fursterbug is not only a good designer, she gives good relationship advice.
2. Lauren is a way better co-worker then Olivia could ever hope to be.
3. Once again, Olivia makes the mistake of asking someone what's going on, then chiding them for bringing their personal life into the workplace.
4. London can HAVE Olivia. Keep the bloody bitch!
5. London can have Jay too. Or Australia. New Zealand, is that where he's from? Seriously, "Maybe we should give it a try" is not a good response to someone telling you they're dunzo.
6. Adam has terrible delivery and Allie is an idiot for falling for it. Is she so vapid that she doesn't notice he says everything in the exact same tone of voice? I love you more. I promise it will never happen again. I really like toast with extra butter. This weather is crazy. All in the same tone of voice! They should've gotten John Stamos. Dude has range!

Ups and downs in The City
Did anybody else smile happily when Olivia was portrayed like a total idiot on last night's City? Of course that smile was brief since Jay then acted like a total d-bag. I wanted Whitney to dump him so bad. But, no, of course Jay got the honors. Oh well. At least Olivia got hers.

Whitney! Get it together!
From the previews of The City next week it would appear that Jay and Whitney will be dunzo and Jay will be the one to end it. C'mon, girl! YOU dump HIS skinny, lying aussie ass! And while you're at it, punch Olivia in her smug little face! Lyin' her little social ass off about pulling the Elle cover look! Sheesh!

Hey, have you guys seen the City?
It's this show with that Whitney girl from the Hills. Unlike my timely friends here, I just watched the last 5 episodes of the City. Apparently I have been busy since January. So engaging in a little DVR sponsored mini-marathon I have made some insights into this show that I am sure everyone else noticed like, 5 weeks ago.
- This show likes to highlight people with TRULY weird faces. Allie- what? She is the most alien-looking, pouty faced son of a mother I have ever seen. There was one scene where her bruisy looking eye makeup matched her lipstick perfectly. It was scary. I tried to find a picture of it but no luck.
- There was a specific slouchy casual California look that the Hills girls always sported. And apparently the New York look is things on your head. For real- it is getting a little ridiculous.
- Oh, hey- I don't know if you noticed but Whitney is on this show! She is so vanilla and likable and non-controversial that it makes it hard to notice her on her own show. But I still love her.
- I admire/despise Olivia's complete lack of guilt or feelings for other living things. I watch and think, man, if I could just have the courage to say what I want at any given time. But then after about 17 seconds I can't put up with her complete lack of concern for anyone except her cousin. And he's not even safe.
- The myriad of girls who show up here with "Whitney's friend" under their names confounds and confuses me. I need a show that I can have on while playing on my laptop. I would like it if they had just one person playing all of Whitney's friends. I am not sure if I'd even notice. Well- no, there should be Erin and then one "other" friend.
End note- in trying to find info on this Allie character (I could only find that she was "thinspo" for anorexic girls- I have to imagine that is their version of inspiration?) I found a hills/city blog (our competition, ladies!) that listed a few interesting pieces of info that I had not heard:
- Jason Whaler, in the dust of his engagement, is shopping around a show called Jason and the Cougars. I don't think it's a joke.
- Paris Hilton is now bringing our old friend Doug around Tokyo with her. That's good- he hadn't attached himself to a famous blonde in like, a week. Don't worry guys- the dry spell is over!

I didn't even see Snapple in New York
I'm almost done with this week's City and I have three things to say:
1. I'm thinking Jay needs to kick rocks. I quite enjoyed when Whitney said their conversation was making her nauseous.
2. Who still drinks Snapple? Is that what I need to do to kick start my modeling career, lose 65 pounds and offer to take someone out for a Snapple?
3. Who is Pottsy and why does his girlfriend have such a large gap in her teeth?

It reminds me of the homeless photo shoot on ANTM
Oh, Olivia. Your self-righteous and smug expressions truly tell the whole story. When she mentioned the charity coat event, the first thing that crossed my mind was, I certainly hope they buy new coats to donate cause I really don't think last season's castoffs are appropriate for the homeless, who do not rocks layers as a fashion statement. I honestly had a picture in my head of a group of people huddled in an alley in faux fur and pleather and tweed. And maybe you shouldn't be giving a patented Olivia lecture on mixing work with personal life after you were the one who asked Whitney's thoughts on the whole matter in the first place. Not liking the answer you get doesn't magically erase the quesion, babe! Oh, wait, you hate being called babe. Actually I would hate being called babe if Nevan was the one doing the calling. I was highly repulsed by him using the "more cowbell!" quote as A) how would someone with so clearly a high opinion of himself lower it to watch Saturday Night Live like the rest of us, and B) I don't like d-bags using good material. Although I was also admittedly a bit confused by Jay's band, which seems to be some sort of Phish/Blues Traveler fusion with just a hint of Jimmy Buffet thrown in. In conclusion, Erin, I love ya but maybe you shouldn't be bemoaning your long distance relationship after seemingly discouraging your long distance boyfriend from moving to you. Oh, you City folk!

Ramblings on The City when I should be in bed
Did anyone else find it hilarious on The City when Erin told Allie she has thick skin? Seeing as how the point of the episode is that her skin is not, in fact, thick? Girl is hella skinny. I never noticed it until this episode. Which is convenient, I suppose, to the plot. I mean she's not Machinist skinny, and thank god because that whole thing was just f'ed. Anyway, where was I...Oh, right. Kelly Cutrone is awesome. She cracks me up. And you know, she's right, the truth is not always a happy little bluebird on your shoulder. A lot of times it's like a crazy ass crow that's going to peck your bones! And if you're a thin skinned little model it's going to hurt! Um, where was I again...Oh, yes, Olivia is also awesome. I love how she's not having any of anyone else's issues. So, in conclusion: Allie--skinny, annoying (does anyone else get the willies whenever Adam calls her "honey"?); Kelly--not a bluebird of happiness, awesome; Olivia--self-centered, awesome but not as awesome as Kelly, looks like she's going to get pissy next week. Did I get everything? Yup. Bedtime!

A sort of answer for Kate
This Erin person from The City has been a puzzle to me as well, so I defer to my good friend Wikipedia who reports the following: "Erin Lucas is the pseudonym of model and actress, Erin Williams. She is a cast member of the MTV reality television show, The City, a spinoff of The Hills, where she is the confidante of long-time friend and main character, Whitney Port. She is the daughter of AC/DC bass guitarist, Cliff Williams."
Not satisfied? Me neither! So I deferred to my second good friend IMDB and hit the message boards (it's my day off and I want to be a famous pop culture writer and I'm working my way through a pot of coffee, OK? Slag off!) and found THIS: "Their ex-boyfriends are best friends. They met a couple years ago through the boyfriends, then went to Coachella and stayed in an RV together." I can totally picture Erin in an RV.
So, Kate and myself, there we are. As to the ID of anybody wearing a beanie or in the airport, well...hey, this is show is on demand and Mick is off doing laundry! Gooooooooooooooal!

Catching up with the City- who are these people?
I have officially watched, what, five episodes? I admit I have a short attention span and am usually doing a few things while watching TV but I am confused and have a series of questions regarding this series:
-WHO is Erin?? I keep waiting for the explanation of how they met or anything connecting back to the idea that they have known each other longer than the show. Is this another Audrina/Heidi situation or are Whit and Erin really for real friends.
-Who is the guy in the beanie cap and fur collared coat? Who is the girl from the airport? What's going on? I need some help, ladies.
-What percentage of the new apartment is MTV paying for? Any chance it is less than 100%?
-Does Olivia have any friends aside from her cousin? (Olivia told him NO GIRLS over- is this really an issue for Nevan? BUT I am loving his short new york answer to Olivia making fun of his shoes- "they're super comf!")
I need help answering these pressing questions because at this point I am not getting into the drama because I just don't understand. Are there Cliff's Notes? I will be anxiously awaiting answers in the comments...
I am thinking they need to relate every person whose name pops up on screen to Whitney- "Whiny airport girl- Whitney's sometimes boyfriend's college roommate's brother's best friend's girlfriend"or whatevs. Work on it MTV. Make it easy for me- I don't watch the show to increase my brain capacity. That's what video games are for.

Please don't pass the nuts
3 Questions I am left with after this week's The City:
1. Am I supposed to like Jay as a person/character after he makes statements like, "Sometimes you just need to take your nuts back in your hand and say OK, it's my turn now"?
2. How are there still girls left that actually fall for the line, "You know you can trust me baby!"?
3. What exactly does Olivia mean by the phrase, "You look like you were in a retirement home" in regards to Cousin Nevan's sneaks? And 3.5 What the hell is a needlepoint loafer?
This has been 3 Questions I am left with after this week's The City. Thank you.

My laptap buffers too much
So, the other day when I got to work my co-worker Emily said she had something she was going to tell me but could not think of what it was, and she couldn't remember, and then eventually I said hey, did you watch The City? and she said THAT was it! It's always good to have co-workers to discuss these things with since I spend half my waking life with them.
Leading into this week's sepisode, one thing I always wonder when watching these shows--they have to edit it in those long pauses to make it seem more awkward and dramatic, right? Like I picture the editors splicing in extra footage to make those long, drawn-out pauses. Only sometimes they just make them seem like their idiots rather then adding to the drama.
I really like Erin. She seems so down-to-earth. I sort of feel like in this show, she's become like Whitney was in Hills and Whitney is like Lauren--advice giver to advice givee. She's way better at Olivia then giving it. Apparently Olivia is under the impression she is Whitney's Yoda. Can a soliciate adopt a non-debutante? Had I have known this I would've looked up a deb in L.A. I loved her lecture to Whitney on the importance of being an independent woman; I couldn't help but notice several cuts to a random co-worker looking over her shoulder during it. I really wanted to hear what she was thinking. In my head, it was, Jesus Christ, Olivia, shut up. And this Nevan person is ridiculous.
Honestly, I'm glad to have this between seasons of The Hills, which was starting to irk me because as we've groused before as of late it's been about anybody but Lauren. What would really make my life is a split-show of the two, you know? Like half of each segment about Lauren in L.A. and the other half on the other coast about Whitney. I'm way over Heidi and Audrina. Is MTV hiring? I think they need my expertise...
In conclusion, Whitney's legs are sa-lammin'.

The City, my laptop edition
It's become easier for me to catch MTV shows on-line. The downside is, dork that I am, since I can't get at the blog I make notes about stuff I want to write about; the upside is, no commercials. Just like, 30 second blurbs where commercials usually are. Although it can feel odd when I'm wearing headphones watching and Mick is watching something on TV and we both randomly laugh at things. Also, the blurb of the first episode was for this new movie The Unborn, which I thought looked kind of cool, plus it's got Gary Oldman who is awesome, plus it's from the co-writer of The Dark Knight...then today I find out that Micheal Bay is the producer! For those who read my old blog, suffice to say I think Micheal Bay is a hack.
That having all been said, I finally watched the first two episodes of The City and I am in love. Much like The Hills (what would our show be called? The Plains?) it made me a bit nostalgic for my time in L.A. The excitement of living in a big glam city that can swallow you whole...By the way, at the risk of sounding like a total idiot which luckily has never stopped me before, does anyone else ever mentally picture their location and who they're with popping up on an imaginary screen from watching these shows so much? Like the other day I met my friend Angela from work for lunch, and in my head "Punch Pizza, Highland Area" flashed across, followed by "Alison," "Angela, Alison's co-worker" and "Matt, Angela's friend."
I found the credits a bit odd, only in that they showed pre-filmed close-ups of everybody. And the whole thing left me with some questions, like who the hell is this Erin person? I quite enjoy her, by the way. And I couldn't help but notice the bright nail polish--orange, yellow, white--being a contrast to Lauren's perma-black nails. Is this a nail polish symbolism? I also enjoyed the way the phrase "art dealer" was featured so prominently in The Dinner Party (is this the kind of thing we're supposed to be throwing at our age?). I was highly entertained by the second episode, especially by Alex going out of his way to point out he hates being "that guy" then proceeds to spend the rest of his airtime being "that guy". And curse words were flying! The icing on the whole cake was Kelly Cutron's confusion/apparent disgust over Olivia having a job. Oh, I laughed. I would love a little Kelly being judgemental snippet every episode. It's official. I'm going to rock this show hardcore. In "Alison and Mick's apartment, St. Paul."
Oh yeah, and happy new year.

Flashing Lights
Part 1:
I'm blogging as I watch 'The City' and so far it's alright. I laughed so hard when they show Whitney walking up to DVF and the random dude patted his friend on the back when she walked by. I have to admit that when I first heard that the spin-off would be about Whitney, I wondered if she could carry a show, but all the press leading up to it has made me pretty ok with it. I like that they chose someone similar to Lauren in terms of normalcy.
I'm actually very jealous of Whitney. What more could you ask for at her age than an awesome job, an awesome city, and a very aussie-omely (nice right?) hot boy. Jay got a tish less hot when he said, "I just do whatever I want." Not such an attractive quality. I watched My So Called Life and I know how that story pans out.
I'm wondering what Olivia's deal is. I was confused by the fact that she's a "socialite" but has a job. I thought the point of being a socialite was that you partied with other people's money and don't work...I can already smell a worthless friendship brewing but this one may lead to more contacts than a certain other worthless friend.
Part 2:
Ok the second half hour so far is all about if Jay is playing Whitney. At first I thought we had another JB on our hands, but really they haven't known one another very long and it's not really that big of a deal to date more than one person, as long as that other person is the other's best pal.
I totally don't blame Alex for trying to get into Whit's ear. If I lost a totally hot girl like her, I'd also go down swinging. Isn't it weird that he put a mike on for all his gossiping and also for the argument with Jay? I'm glad Kelly Cutrone will be on occasionally to give advice to Whitney and also to pass judgement on the people on the show.
Final thoughts: I love Whitney and her current roommate (her name escapes me)and that's pretty much it. It seems like she's left the city of teen stars for the city of twenty-somethings who are very worried about their labels (according to where they live). I'm excited to see how this pans out BUT I can't wait for the next season of Hills. I hate strangers.
