She kissed a girl and this time, I LIKED IT!

Katy Perry. It seemed to me that she was trying a little too hard, you know? I never liked I Kissed a Girl because a) Jill Sobule already took that path and 2) it seemed to be provocative for the sole purpose of getting radio play.

But then, she had a couple of ticks in "pro" column- I) Engaged to Russell Brand- she can't be all bad and b) her cat's name is Kitty Purry.

We are at a hung jury here, folks. Or, rather, we were. I was working out this morning and ellipticalling to the 6:00am MTV video countdown (3. Empire State of Mind (Jay and Alicia Keys), 2. Tik Tok (Ke$ha) and 1. Hard (Rhianna)). MTV does their commercials at off points so they kept it rocking from Rhianna right in to... Katy Perry Unplugged. Here is where her team won- exhibit a- those awesome things in her hair and more importantly, exhibit e- she redid I Kissed a Girl and, shockingly, I liked it! I hope my former self don't mind it.

I like drums.

This is the song I am currently obsessed with. It's called "Percussion Gun" and when I have money I will happily purchase the White Rabbits CD that it's on; until such time I rely on my love of Itunes and the Current to give me a fix.

A boat to the Lonely Island

Well, I was pretty bummed when the recent SNL Just Clips didn't include Natalie Portman's rap, but I was rejuvenated when I realized that it's on The Lonely Island CD, thus available as a ringtone, and also, there's this!:

Rocket! I'm taking a rocket!

So I was hanging with That Girl this morning and I had the theme song to "Astronaut Jones" stuck in my head, except I couldn't think of the words. So then of course I tried to YouTube it and damned if I could find any of the skits! But I did find this, which reminded me what all the words were, and frankly these boys look like they'd be fun to hang out with (PS if you would like the actual version, they're re-running the episode he hosted tonite, and oh yes Brian Fellows is on).

A blog to aspire to?

This is from a few episodes back but still makes me giggle.

When will flat butts be in?!

Now, normally I do not condone The King of Burger King, but I suppose every once in awhile exceptions can be made. Like just this once.

My bestie's toss offs

Ryan Gosling can do no wrong in my eyes. The site says it's "Dead Man's Bones performing 'Name In Stone' live in a cemetery with L.A. Inner Mass Choir and The Silverlake Conservatory of Music Children's Choir." This is a very interesting track.

Just in time for Lent!

This is Mick's current favorite commercial. At least he must like it quite a bit cause he goes around singing it.

From the Hills to the hot rod

I think this is our 300th post so I thought it only appropriate to bust out some Hills action. I just got the season 2 DVDs last nite. So many memories of so many good times. Like when Heidi had a normal face pre-plastic surgery and would randomly score with a good statement (like comforting Lauren post-Jason break-up with the excellent point "You were the best thing about him"). And how Brody apparently feels the way into a woman's heart is to endlessly compliment her...and her eyes...and her smile...(Did he do that to the boys on Bromance?). And the origins of Spencer, who is a douche bag from Day 1. Like when he asks Audrina to accompany him to the Area Club where Heidi works, then tells Heidi we didn't come together, she saw us and tagged along! and Heidi's co-worker said "Sometimes girls are worse then guys." I used to believe girls were always worse--then Spencer came into my life. I also couldn't help but notice when Lauren asks why girls compare to boys to accessories after Jen Bunny and Heidi called Brody arm candy--anybody else remember on Laguna Beach when Lauren said boys were like handbags? Thank god there are parts of my brain dedicated to remembering such key details.

We also got Hot Rod which is one of the funniest things I have ever seen in my life, and features Sissy Spacek. I love Sissy Spacek big time--how can you not love a woman who plays a teenage girl on the run/killing spree (see Badlands), then a teenage girl with mind powers/the ultimate anti-prom movie (see Carrie), and now that she's older she does whatever the f she wants and does it well (see In the Bedroom and Blast from the Past) (I had a thing for Brendan Fraiser, ok?). The first time Mick and I watched Hot Rod I busted out the chorus to this gem from the 80's, much to his surpise.

Plus, I love toast!

I, personally, choose to celebrate my very simple sense of humor. That's why things like this bring such joy to my life:

This will get you in the mood for summer-

Awkward!

These are highlights from Joaquin Phoenix's interview on David Letterman from last night. I didn't see the whole interview. Frankly after watching the condensed version, I think that's ok with me.

"My vegetables sing to me."

All right. Traci told me about this really cool blog called nogoodforme which in turn just introduced me to Thunderant. Apparently, Fred Armissen (of Saturday Night Live fame, my favorites of his body of work include Ferictio The Drummer who to this day inspires me to tell people that I'm yust keeding! and those hilarious Weekend Update things where he and that other akward guy explain things to us through songs that consist entirely of them singing nonsense) and Carrie Brownstein (who was in Sleater-Kinney who I met once and totally cried and then when they went on "indefinite hiatus" I totally cried again and called my dad who had no idea what I was talking about but these sorts of phone calls are one of the staples of our relationship) make short films now. So far I only watched 3 but giggled a lot, especially at the end of The Perfect Song and at most of Feminist Bookstore Episode 2 (as a feminist I cannot stress enough the importance of being able to laugh at one's feminist self). I had no idea Carrie Brownstein is hilarious. Now I'll be the first to admit my sense of humor is a bit off sometimes but I'm fairly sure at least someone else who reads/writes this blog will get a good laugh out of it.

A day off leads to multiple posts

I will be the first to admit that I can have a very simple sense of humor. I will laugh and laugh at things from the couch as Mick sits in a chair and gives me his best "Where did it all go wrong with you?" look. That having been said, I love David Letterman. I used to watch every night when Jawa and I lived at the lake cabin, and last year when I had to go bed early for work I would listen to it on the radio (it never came in reception wise on my tiny TV). I watched it last night after having not seen it forever, and learned the fun fact that back in the day, Jesus Christ used to rock a bracelet that said "What would I do?"

Now, back to the beginning of the post and my simple sense of humor--my absolute favorite part of the show back in the day, and I haven't seen them do this for awhile, was a segment called "Will it float?" The premise is simple, yet genius: Dave says, "And now it's time to play Will it float?" and then Paul and the guys plays the theme song. Dave asks the announcer Alan what the item of the night is, and Alan responds. Dave usually asks some questions, like what is the item packaged in? then asks what they're playing for, and Alan responds with some sort of sweet prize which of course no one actually wins. Then Dave and Paul discuss if they think it will float, and the curtain is pulled back to reveal a large tank of water, the 2 Will it float? girls bedecking it, Hula Girl, and Grinder Girl. Then they would put the item in the water, we would wait to see what happens, and the results would flash on the screen. How can this not be completely awesome? Thanks to the magic of YouTube I was able to revisit some of these feats of wonder. If you, too, find joy in the simple and scientific, watch the following to answer the burning question as related to coal and a glass brick--Will they float?

Tighter than Shane's Dereon Jeans

I know we have posted about this song and gentleman before, but I gotta put in my two cents as well. Can't let the Alleys have all the fun.

Why I felt it was important to link to this guy again:
- He now has a name (and it's Shane!)
- I enjoy him better clothed
- Wow he is really skinny. Skinnier with clothes on somehow
- In this video he is smiling, which makes me see that there is something in him other than an obsessive Beyonce fan, and an amazing dancer. I like my Shanes smiling.

AND- a classmate of mine told me that she heard the choreographer of the dance, a male, is one of the back up dancers in B's video. Really? I watched it and I really don't see that being at all probable.

So, again, here we go- Shane in front of Beyonce on a big screen

Lastly- does ANYONE have Dereon jeans besides B and MAYBE Solange? Maybe Michelle and Kelly have some in their closets but have they ever been seen in them? Exactly. How long til we can buy them at T.J. Maxx?

Buckets, or boxes?

OK, so, did anybody else watch The Tom Green Show on MTV? Actually that's misleading. Did anybody else ever SEE The Tom Green Show? I saw like one episode, and somehow managed to catch that one episode twice. Every once in awhile, like tonite at work, random parts of it pop into my head. The first is when he started yelling about how he found out where babies come from and then proceeded to run out of a cave clutching armfuls of plastic baby dolls yelling, "I like to THROW them!" and then, of course, proceeding to throw them. Specifically at cars. I think one of them knocked a guy's hood ornament off.

The other was this really weird Man On The Street kind of thing, I can't remember the entire set-up, but I do recall him asking people, repeatedly, "Buckets or boxes?" And then he'd say "Will it stick?" and try to glue something to a 2 by 4 and then yell, "It stuck!" So at work, all night, in my head, I could hear Tom Green yelling, "Buckets or boxes? Buckets or boxes? Will it stick? IT STUCK!" And every once in awhile an "I like to THROW them!" would sneak in there. It was actually really hard not to walk around asking people, "Buckets or boxes?" And then I think he had a globe and would point out places on it to a manhole cover telling it where he was going to send it to. I tried to find either skit on Utube but lost patience really fast.

Andy Milonakis had some real Tom Green potential. The only skits I remember from that is his own Man On The Street where he said, "Know what I'm sayin?" to random people over and over again. Sometimes I pull that and it really annoys people. The other one, and this is truly a classic, I did manage to find here for you viewing pleasure:

Hateration, Holleration

Percolate: 1. When your body convulses after an orgasm 2. to get something started 3. to make coffee in a "perculator" coffee machine

This is a real word, though I can't quite pin point what rappers mean when they say it. I think it's one of those generic slang words that mean different things to different users. My definition is this (At 1:25 it gets really good.):

An oldie but a goodie.

OK, I can't remember why this came into my head but it did. I tried to find Chris Kattan's envelope song to go with it but no luck. Although I do remember the lyrics "Envelope, couldn't be any thinner/Open up to see who da winna."
